SMALL BUSINESS BLOG
If you haven't heard the term Virtual Assistant or Online Business Manager by now then you've probably been living under a rock, but do you know exactly how your business could benefit from engaging their services?
I reached out to the amazing Theresa Pendergast, owner of Virtually Everything Admin to get the full scoop on how she helps entrepreneurs, start ups and small businesses thrive when it comes to managing their admin!
What does a VA actually do?
A Virtual Assistant (VA) or an OBM (Online Business Manager) is someone who can look after your business by undertaking tasks you outsource to them, leaving you time to work on other projects or tasks you love doing, and can now focus on, because the other ‘stuff’ is with your VA! We invoice you as a subcontractor, which means you don’t pay sick cover, annual leave or super.
Why did you become a VA and OBM?
I was working for some small businesses and pretty much looking after them as if it were my own business, with the same care, dedication, and desire to see it operate successfully. Sometimes, more passionately than the owners. After a while I decided I needed to channel this energy and love of setting up good admin processes, to create my own business, and sharing my expertise with other small. businesses.
What type of client do you look after?
I have looked after an array of businesses from allied health, training organisations, entrepreneurs, other sole traders to international corporates ~ anyone who has reached out to me and requested my help! They all have one thing in common ~ they need someone to control their admin, so they can focus on their core business.
How do you know what you can help them with and how do they find out what you can do for them?
I have a client intake form, which lists all the tasks and processes I have experience in, or have learnt along the way, during my VA journey. The client can add extra items to the list of those I offer, and we then discuss what those needs are and if I don’t have the necessary experience I can outsource to other VAs in my ‘circle of trust’.
Do you have to be local to the client?
The quick answer is no I don’t, and I have been working remotely long before COVID forced a huge percentage of the workforce to work from home. I have been able to manage my client’s business virtually online for a few years, with regular video meetings, using quick messaging apps such as Slack or Teams and having lots of online tools I can utilise. Not being geographically local to my clients, has never been a problem. Sometimes there is a time zone to be mindful of, especially if I am setting meetings for clients. Since COVID, businesses are much more flexible in their approach to working online, which makes it easier to support clients anywhere.
How can we find out more about hiring a VA?
A client published an article on hiring a VA and his experience, which answers a lot of questions that you may have, before you explore this service further. You can read his review directly here.
I am happy to answer any questions you may have, either via email, phone call, my socials or video conference, whichever you prefer.
